I have a few questions for anyone who knows anything about computers....

so why does www.seekthejoy.com go to my site just fine but seekthejoy.com does not?  Just an error page.  Do I need to update some DNS somethingorother?

ALSO - when you put my RSS feed into Google reader, it spits out (title unknown) for my blog title.  Does someone know how to fix that?  Any and all help that any of you good souls can provide will be rewarded with Ben and Jerry's [yeah, Jasmine, you read me right...]

I'm out in Florida right now hanging and shooting a bit.  I was walking around scouting locations yesterday and brought along a camera... here's a few random pics i snapped.  Enjoy!

well.  I was gonna type.  but I video'd instead.

So at the end of it all, I got home around 7:40.  That was quite the trip.  Off to Florida tomorrow.  I'll post from there to say hi.

Audrey on the rooftop

today was yet another trip into NYC - upper west side, to be exact - where it was overcast, drizzly, and a little nippy.  Not to fear!

Audrey was a power champ an toughed the outdoors for some awesome new headshots. We actually shot in the apartment and balcony of the number one Georgio Armani salesman.  It was kind of awesome to have these coat racks of unbearably expensive suits just hanging around the place...

Audrey was going to be an Opera singer... but then she decided that that was a little boring.  So instead she majored in theatre at Swathmore, went to massage therapy school, and started writing her own one woman shows.  So basically she's a performing, teaching, and healing artist.  Coolness. And she has AWESOME HAIR.  Look at that mane.  That thing is sweet. 

You know what they say [they being me]... rain is only liquid sunshine!

How to NOT Decorate for the Holidays

Ladies and Gentlemen.

Today was a milestone.  I make it a point every year to go around looking for the tackiest and most hideously decorated holiday home.  Last year [or so I thought] I had finally found it.  The tackiest thing I had ever seen [granted, I was sore for a week from laughing so hard.]  At two separate houses last year, I saw

1] Santa lying in a manger with the three wise men giving him gifts.  I haven't laughed so hard in all my life.  I gotta admit.  It was pretty brilliant.

2] A just as hysterical yet slightly more socially charged commentary - a large inflatable Santa cradling a little baby jesus.

So this year I ventured to the town of Saugus, MA - a town notorious for their costly November and December electrical bills - and this is what I found.  Granted, not quite the wit or charm of last year's homes but just some disgusting and obnoxious holiday decorations.  See for yourself. 

C'mon folks.  You don't uplight Santa.  That just makes him look creepy.  This Santa looks like he belongs in I Know What You Did Last Summer :: Christmas Edition

can someone please explain to me the significance of the holiday seal?

I always thought Santa had a sleigh.  Don't really remember the propeller airplane story...

these folks had literally stopped traffic.  Unbelievable.

well, I've had my fix.  If I see any more really crazy things I'll be sure to post but I think this one might take the cake this year.

I wonder what would have happened if they took the money they are now spending on their electricity bill and donated it.  Just a thought.

Welcome Sullivan

i'm happy to announce the newest member of the Laurits family.... Sullivan ::

he came home from the rescue today to live with my sister and Benny [my sister's other four legged companion.] If he doesn't get along with Benny, though, he's gotta come live with me... yikes!  That's a whole lot of responsibility that, with my schedule, I'm not so sure is a good idea!

Um, May I please be excused? My brain is full.

So I just finished getting my rear end kicked into financial shape.  After three days of breaking down my numbers, preconceptions and confidence, I am proud to announce that I am still [sort of] standing upright and ready to tackle the biz!

Anyways, if you're a photog and like me dread the business side of things but are totally obsessed with everything else YOU NEED THIS COURSE!  Liana is totally awesome [and boatloads of fun, to boot] and I highly recommend you spend some time checking out BBC.

Blowin in the Wind

Yesterday I spent the afternoon with Steve and his sister out in Brooklyn Heights.

We were pretty lucky to be able to get a decently warm day so that he wasn't freezing his butt off... but being right on the water does bring with it HOLY CRAP WIND.  So we hung out on the boardwalk for a little bit, admiring the views, getting blown around, and then retreated into the brownstones to shoot...

Things you may want to know about Steve.  He's a Colorado boy.  Yet ANOTHER actor from the land of the Rockies [Go Red Sox] out here in the Big Apple ready to make it big.  Steve also runs Starbucks.  Pretty much all of it.  If you ever have any questions about anything Starbuck-related, he's your man to ask.  When we stopped in there to get something and take a little break from shooting he ordered this super secret agent Red-Eye-surprise-Black-dipped-stealth thing in a Large cup.  It was crazy.  Not even on the menu.  Also, Steve just finished playing in Dead Man Walking - Tim Robbins adapted it for the stage.  From what I hear it was a pretty life altering theatre experience.
